Stephen M. Powell, P.E., Vice President, Construction Projects & Development

Prior to joining HETSCO, Mr. Powell was instrumental in the formation of several companies related to the construction industry including the Rubicon companies located in Bloomington, Indiana and AERCON Industries. Rubicon's primary businesses include construction and construction management of residential and commercial projects (Rubicon Construction), along with the development, ownership, and management of real estate and commercial property (Rubicon Investments and Rubicon Capital Management). AERCON Industries, for which Mr. Powell served as President and managing member from 2002-2004, has a principal activity of the manufacture of autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) building material. AERCON's production facility is located in Haines City, Florida. He continues as a member of these companies.

Prior to 2002 Mr. Powell was Senior Vice President for Indianapolis Power & Light Company's generation group with responsibility for the construction, operation and maintenance of electric generation facilities, strategic planning, power marketing, fuel supply, and engineering.

Throughout his career, Mr. Powell has been a member of various professional organizations including the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), the American Society for Testing of Materials (ASTM), the East Central Area Reliability Council Executive Committee (ECAR), and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He has also been appointed by the Secretary of Energy to serve as a member of the National Coal Council.

In addition to being a member of Hetsco's board, Mr. Powell serves on the Board of Directors of Bosma Industries for the Blind, Inc. in Indianapolis. He is a past Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Indiana Construction Roundtable and is currently the chairman of ICR's workforce development committee. This committee provides a statewide assessment of construction labor availability to the Indiana Department of Labor and ICR members. He has also served as a member of Indiana Nature Conservancy and the Crossroads of America Boy Scout Council.

Mr. Powell is a 1972 graduate of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering, and has completed Harvard University's Advanced Management Program (AMP 158).  He is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Indiana.
