Cary Darnell, CIHM, ASHM
Mr. Darnell has over 25 years of safety management experience. Prior to joining Hetsco, Mr. Darnell was instrumental in the foundation of several safety related companies that focused on safety, training, and rescue services for construction and industry both locally and nationally. These companies specialized in over 40 OSHA related topics including hazardous materials, confined space entry, trench rescue, all using the OSHA 29 CFR 1910 for industry and 29 CFR 1926 standard protocols for construction. He holds several certificates of training in several construction and general industry courses. Mr. Darnell also holds the Solo Scuba Diver and Master Scuba Diver qualifications from both PADI and SDI.
Mr. Darnell recently completed 24 years of service with the City of Gary, Indiana Fire Department, retiring as second division commanding officer, Division Chief. It is there in 1986 where he assisted in implementing a tactical response high angle rope rescue, trench shoring, scuba diving, and firefighting unit known today as Squad 2, one of the busiest rescue units in the country, a unit/group that assisted in the tragedies of New York on September 2001.
Throughout his career Mr. Darnell has and still is a member of various professional organizations including the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC), and the Institute of Safety and Health Managers Association (ISHMA). He is also an evaluator and assessor with The Booth Research Group, an organization hired to review, research, interview, and evaluate candidates for promotions in a number of occupations throughout the country.
Mr. Darnell holds a BS in Occupational Safety and Health and a CIHM Certified Industrial Hygiene Manager from Columbia Southern University. He also holds an AAS in Fire Science and HSO Health and Safety Officer from the Fire Department Safety Officers Association, and also an ASHM from the Institute for Safety and Health Management. Mr. Darnell also holds the OSHA 500 Construction Outreach Certificate from The National Safety Education Center.
